High Fidelity

Over dinner last night, I decided to pop in the High Fidelity DVD, starring John Cusack.

high fidelityThe critically acclaimed flick (certainly by my brother) was pretty darn good. Touched on a lot of issues and as a result was at risk of not knowing how or when to close. For my part, I liked that it had a happy ending – yes, I’m that kind of person.

But it was a relatively mature happy ending. Bob (Cusack) comes to a realisation about his relationships. He grows. And the importance of this is a lesson worth pulling from anywhere and everywhere and drumming into your soul as often as you can.

He’s just fun to watch. As is Jack Black – an absolute riot.

“Tagline:

A comedy about fear of commitment, hating your job, falling in love and other pop favorites.

Plot:

Rob, a record store owner and compulsive list maker, recounts his top five breakups, including the one in progress.”

It’s fear of commitment to anything in life, not just relationships, and the dreadful sense of coasting while your life slips by. That’s the interesting thing, because I reckon there are a number of people who might feel this happening to them. Must pick something at some point, and work from there.
It’s a scenario intensified when you have nothing to fill your empty moments with but your inane, baseless, and useless thoughts. What are you obsessed about? Does it actually matter? What does matter? If one dismisses the question as either being too hard, or that he thinks the question doesn’t merit being asked, then you are destined for an ultimately empty life. And things such as relationships and living for other people, rather than for something, are band-aids. If they disappear, so do you. Hang one’s hat on something permanent.
Enough people analysed this movie, so I’ll stop there. It’s a fun movie.
